Kids goalkeeper gloves. Size, model, budget

A poorly chosen glove takes confidence from your kid. A well chosen one gives them wings.

Buying gloves for a kid is different from buying for an adult. The hand grows, the goalkeeper is learning, and the glove has to do three things: protect them, help them learn and motivate them. This guide takes you through everything you need to know.

Elite Sport Kids Pro sizes

The Kids Pro line runs from size 3 to 6. Approximate equivalence by age.

• Size 3: ages 4 to 6. Width 4.7 to 5.5 cm. Length 13 to 14.5 cm.

• Size 4: ages 6 to 8. Width 5.6 to 6 cm. Length 14.5 to 15.3 cm.

• Size 5: ages 8 to 10. Width 6.1 to 6.6 cm. Length 15.3 to 16 cm.

• Size 6: ages 10 to 12. Width 6.7 to 7.2 cm. Length 16.1 to 16.9 cm.

Important. Age is reference, not rule. Always measure your kid's hand. Some 8-year-olds have big hands and need size 6. Others at 10 still wear size 4.

From size 6, if the hand keeps growing, jump to the adult line size 6. It is a natural step.

How to measure a kid's hand

Kids move. Having a flexible measuring tape helps. If you do not have one, a string works and then you measure it.

Sit your kid at the table. Place their hand open on the table, palm down, with fingers together.

Measure the WIDTH. Place the tape or ruler horizontally over the knuckles, fingers together and NOT including the thumb. Note the measurement in centimeters.

Measure the LENGTH from the base of the palm to the tip of the longest finger.

Compare both measurements with the chart. If between two sizes, choose the larger (kids grow fast).

With or without spines

The classic question. My recommendation.

Kids 4 to 9 years. With fixed spines. The hand is still forming, shots can generate hyperextension injuries, and the confidence the spine gives encourages the kid to dive without fear.

Kids 10 to 12 years. Can start trying without spines if they have experience. Sensitivity is greater but so is injury risk. If your kid is playing competitive category with strong shots, keep spines.

Spined and latex line.

Realistic budget

First pair. Start with the most accessible line. If your kid has been playing three months, do not invest in mid or high tier.

Renewal. Kids wear out gloves and outgrow sizes. Plan to renew every 4 to 8 months at the start.

When they advance. If your kid has been competing more than a year, they are ready to add a second better pair for matches. The Kids Pro neoprene line or a small Force Pro are options.

Common mistakes when buying for kids

Buying big to grow into. The big glove dances, does not grip and demotivates. If your kid is between size 5 and 6, better 5 now and you buy 6 when they grow, than buying 6 now and having it floating six months.

Buying the cheapest one at the supermarket. The difference between a real goalkeeper glove and a toy one is huge. A poorly made glove does not protect the hand and teaches the kid wrong technique.

Taking them to buy adult glove in small size. As we already said, does not work.

Not including them in the decision. If your kid chooses the model (among options you approve), they will feel it as their own. That increases care and pride.

How to teach your kid to use it well

Before the first use, gentle wash in warm water. You teach them the glove needs activation.

After each use, cleaning with water. You teach them responsibility.

Store in breathable bag. You teach them gear care.

When it wears out, you talk together about the next pair. You teach them their gear is a tool they have to take care of.
